Privacy

Pepper has no accounts. The Chrome extension sends nothing about the pages you read anywhere. Practice mode sends the passage you paste to be translated and never writes it to disk.

The extension swaps words using a dictionary built into it, and keeps your progress in your browser's own storage on your device. The website's practice mode sends the passage you paste to Pepper's server, which passes it to an AI translation provider through Lotl AI, holds the translation in memory for a while so the same passage is not translated twice, and never stores it. The website records anonymous usage counts, such as which language was chosen, so its operator can tell whether it works.
